Art consists in the conception of the result to be produced before its realization in the material. An artist, therefore, must not only be able to conceive the end result to be produced but he must also be able to visualize all the necessary steps needed to achieve it .He must have the imagination, intelligence and dexterity to bring about that result. Is not then plastic surgery an art and the plastic surgeon an artist? The plastic surgeon works with living flesh as his clay, he uses skin, fat bone, cartilage and fascia in building up the parts. His work of art is the attempted achievement of normalcy in appearance and function.
